About VanDerKolk Painting

VanDerKolk Painting started as a family exterior painting business in 1991 and has grown steadily into a full-service company serving homeowners and businesses across West Michigan. We handle residential, commercial, and industrial projects of any size.

We've completed painting projects throughout the Dorr area, from homes near downtown Dorr and the North and South Dorr communities to farm properties along 142nd Avenue and businesses along 18th Street. Because Dorr sits in a rural part of Allegan County, many properties face different maintenance challenges than homes in urban environments, including greater exposure to wind, moisture, agricultural dust, and sun.

Every painter on our crew is a full-time employee. No subcontractors ever. It’s a deliberate choice that keeps quality and accountability where they belong—with us. Each team member holds
RRP lead paint removal and abatement certifications and follows strict safety protocols on every job.

You’ll know where your project stands at every stage. From the first estimate to the final walkthrough, we keep communication clear and straightforward. When you hire VanDerKolk Painting for your Dorr home or business, you get work done right and results that last.

Complete Residential, Commercial, and Industrial Painting Services in Dorr

Over 30 years in the trade means we’ve taken on just about every type of painting project there is. We handle a single interior room and a full industrial recoat with the same preparation and care. The size of the job never changes how we approach it.

We select high-quality materials suited to each surface and setting. A Dorr farmhouse and an industrial facility all have different demands, and matching the right product to the right environment is what makes the work last.

Residential Painting Services

Dorr has a good mix of farmhouses, established family homes, and newer builds. Whatever your home looks like, we bring the right preparation, materials, and attention to detail to make the work last.

Interior House Painting

One room or a full interior repaint; we deliver smooth, even finishes on walls, ceilings, and trim. We use premium, low-VOC paints that are better for your indoor air quality and hold up to everyday life.

Exterior House Painting

Michigan weather puts real pressure on exterior surfaces year after year. We use durable, weather-resistant coatings that protect your home through hard winters and wet springs while keeping it looking sharp.

Kitchen & Cabinet Painting

New cabinets are a significant investment. A professional paint job delivers a clean, updated kitchen at a fraction of the cost, with a durable finish that handles daily use without chipping or fading.

Wallpaper Removal & Wall Prep

Wallpaper that isn’t properly removed leaves behind a surface that won’t hold paint well. We take it off the right way and prep the wall thoroughly so the finish that follows actually sticks.

Historic Home Painting

Older homes need a careful hand. We work with the existing architecture and details rather than covering them up. We refresh the paint while keeping what makes the home worth preserving in the first place.

Commercial Painting Services

Dorr businesses range from small local operations to larger facilities that see heavy daily use. We work around your schedule and keep disruption to a minimum so you can stay focused on running things smoothly.

Office Painting

Your office makes an impression before a word gets spoken. We deliver clean, professional results that work for the people inside and hold up with daily use.

Commercial Exterior Painting

A well-maintained exterior protects your building from Michigan weather and signals to customers that you take your business seriously. We use high-performance weather-resistant coatings for long-term results.

Church Painting

Places of worship get careful, respectful attention. We preserve the architectural details that matter to your congregation and apply fresh, durable finishes that last.

School Painting

Classrooms and hallways are constantly used. We use safe, low-VOC products that hold up to heavy use and create clean, bright spaces for students and staff.

Hospital Painting

Healthcare environments have specific requirements that go beyond appearance. We use healthcare-compliant paints, meet sanitary standards, and schedule work around your facility’s operations.

Warehouse Painting

We coat walls, floors, and structural elements using products built for spaces that run hard. Durability and organization both matter in a working warehouse.

Factory Painting

Production environments need coatings that can keep pace with what happens in them. We apply industrial-grade finishes to machinery, interiors, and surfaces where performance and safety both count.

Agricultural Painting

Barns, silos, and farm equipment face year-round exposure to Michigan’s elements. We apply weatherproof coatings that protect your assets and extend their working life.

Concrete Floor Coatings

We install slip-resistant epoxy and industrial floor coatings designed for commercial spaces where floors take a beating every day.

Industrial Painting Services

Industrial coatings need to withstand conditions that would destroy a standard paint job. Chemicals, moisture, abrasion, and temperature swings are part of the daily reality in these environments.

Sandblasting Services

A coating is only as good as the surface it goes on. We sandblast away rust, old paint, and buildup so new coatings bond properly and stay put.

Specialty Blasting Services

Some jobs can’t tolerate the dust and impact of traditional sandblasting. Wet and dry ice blasting gives us a lower-impact option that still delivers thorough, effective surface preparation.

Pipe & Sprinkler Pipe Painting

We clean, sandblast, and coat industrial piping and sprinkler systems to SSPC standards, improving corrosion resistance and keeping your systems compliant and reliable.

Trailer & Equipment Painting

Equipment that operates outdoors needs coatings that can withstand it. We apply corrosion-resistant finishes that protect against weather and wear and keep your assets looking professional on the job.

Heavy Equipment Painting

Large machinery and heavy equipment need finishes engineered for demanding daily use. We prep surfaces properly and apply industrial-strength coatings that hold up under real working conditions.

Lift Painting

Boom lifts and scissor lifts get thorough surface prep and corrosion-resistant coatings that restore appearance and keep the equipment reliable over time.

Press Painting

We degrease, prep, and coat industrial presses with smooth enamel finishes that protect against wear and corrosion while cleaning up the overall look of the equipment.

Industrial Coatings

Our industrial coatings resist chemicals, abrasion, moisture, and temperature extremes. Built for facilities where downtime is expensive, and protection isn’t optional.

Why Choose a Dorr Professional Painter?

Paint does two jobs at once. It improves how your property looks and protects the surfaces beneath from moisture, wear, and damage that can compound over time if left unaddressed.

The difference between professional work and a rushed DIY job tends to show up within a season or two. Surfaces that weren’t prepped properly, products that weren’t matched to the environment, and edges that peel after the first hard winter are all details that can shorten a paint job’s lifespan. Getting those details right from the start is what makes a professional paint job worth the investment.

Our Proven Painting Process in Dorr

A quality paint job doesn’t start with a brush. It starts with a process. Every Dorr project we take on follows the same steps because that consistency is what produces results you don’t have to think about for a long time.

1. On-Site Consultation & Estimate

We come to your property first. We look at the space, talk through what you need, and recommend the right materials for the job. You get a clear, no-obligation quote with honest pricing and a realistic timeline laid out plainly. No vague estimates and no numbers that change later.

2. Surface Preparation

This is where lasting results are won or lost. We clean, sand, and repair every surface before any paint goes on, removing dirt, rust, and failing coatings that would compromise the finished work. Industrial projects get sandblasting or specialty blasting when the surface calls for it.

3. Paint & Coating Application

Our full-time painters apply high-quality primers, paints, and coatings suited to each specific surface. The approach changes based on what we’re working on. A bedroom wall requires something different than a piece of heavy machinery—but the standard stays the same.

4. Final Walkthrough & Inspection

When the work is finished, we inspect it thoroughly before calling the job complete. Then we walk through it with you. Any touch-ups get handled on the spot before we leave.

5. Cleanup & Warranty

We take all of our supplies with us and leave your property clean and organized. Our work is also backed by a satisfaction guarantee and warranty, giving you real protection long after the job is done.

About Dorr, Michigan

Dorr is a small township in Allegan County, sitting roughly between Holland and Grand Rapids in the heart of West Michigan. It’s a rural community with deep agricultural roots, a tight-knit feel, and a landscape that mixes working farmland with established family homes and a growing number of newer residential properties.

The people here tend to take care of what they own. Farm buildings, older homes, and newer construction all need paint that holds up through Michigan’s full range of weather. And in a community this spread out, finding a contractor who shows up, does the work properly, and stands behind it matters more than it might in a bigger city.

We've been working in communities like Dorr for decades. Many of the properties we paint are larger rural homes, agricultural buildings, pole barns, churches, and small businesses that require a unique approach. The combination of open exposure, seasonal weather swings, and aging structures means preparation work is often the most important part of a successful paint job. That's where our experience throughout Allegan County makes a difference.

Painting Issues We Commonly See With Dorr Properties

One issue we frequently encounter on Dorr-area homes is peeling paint around south-facing elevations and detached outbuildings. Rural properties often receive more direct sun exposure and wind than homes in denser neighborhoods, which can accelerate paint failure when lower-quality products were used previously. Before recommending any coating system, we inspect the existing surface conditions to determine why the previous paint failed so the problem doesn't simply reappear a few years later.
